The history of using light to treat disease can be traced all the way back to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks who believed the sun could strengthen and heal the body. In the middle ages, sunlight was also considered to be an ally in the battle against virulent diseases such as the plague. There were some forays into light emission research in the 1900’s, but the first serious research began in the early 1960’s. Results of those early studies showed that from low power laser to near infrared, light therapy is a effective form of treating pain, anti-inflammation and wound healing.
