Hi guys, new on reddit. I`m not sure you can see what I meant, but basically I saw this company called Works that has 2 versions of a turbo kit for the 86 platform, both of which are CARB compliant. I wanted to share that and see what you think about it, especially those of you who live in California like me. Really interested in Stage 1, being only 7 psi and giving 70 horsepower, 50 feet lbs of torque, and being a direct bolt (no drilling or cutting), I think it would be very convenient for those of us who need a reliable day but still want the power boost. This is the only legal CARB turbo currently in production, and I`d really like to see how they work and what your opinions are! This is, of course, a long discussion, but a turbocharger has many advantages over a compressor. The goal is efficiency, and a turbocharger uses existing exhaust gases to spin the turbine and generate boost pressure. Meanwhile, a compressor uses a rubber belt driven by the engine, creating an additional stray load at any time, as well as a poor throttle response. In addition, the end user has much more control over the boost pressure on a turbocharged vehicle, which typically generates more power/torque in the mid-range with a constant power band. Because the turbo is not always “in the boost” like a compressor; It also means there is less charge when driving through the city or on the highway. If we drive to Southern California on the WORKS Turbo BRZ, we are on the highway with an octane rating of 91 on average more than 30 + MPG.

If you`re trying to stay legal in CARB, opt for a Jackson Racing or Edelbrock compressor. There are much better turbo kits that are not legal in CARB, and there is no real reason to opt for this one via a compressor for performance gains. Is this turbokit smog legal? Yes, this turbo kit is legal for 50-state smog under EXECUTIVE ORDER CARB D-748 and is valid for model years 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.Does the kit come with AN ECU calibration? Yes, ECU calibration is provided, which is required for CARB compliance. How long does it take to install the kit? Depending on the mechanical suitability, the installation should take between 12 and 16 hours. Does the installation of the kit require cutting, manufacturing or harness extensions? Very little grinding, drilling a hole and cutting a support are required. No modification or extension of the factory wiring harness is required! And no removal or modification of the oil pan is necessary! A description of the required changes can be found in our installation guide (link above). Do I need to remove the front bumper for installation? For level 2, the bumper removal is required. A description of the installation process can be found in our installation guide (link above). How does this kit maintain the factory exhaust manifold(s)? Our kit only replaces the exhaust pipe of the exhaust system so that all other exhaust components remain intact. How does the ECU battery and housing handle the extra heat from the turbocharger? The exhaust pipes included in our kit are coated with ceramic, which significantly reduces the heat of the radiation storage tank.

We inserted a battery heat shield into the kit, monitored the battery surface temperatures after the track sessions, and found that they were no problems when using the heat shield. The injector control unit also showed no thermal effect. We offer a thermal film in our kit to protect all the wiring in the turbo zone. What performance gains should I expect? Every vehicle is different, but you should generally expect an increase of about 90 horsepower, ~90 ft-lbs on the 91 octane (R+M)/2 gasoline crank – a gain of about 55%. What is the maneuverability? It is very smooth, factory maneuverable and pulls up to the red line. We have developed this kit to offer a level of performance that matches the performance of the standard case. What surge can I expect? Level 2 has a peak boost level of about 12 psi. Do I need to upgrade the fuel system? No. The factory feed system is sufficient for gasoline with an octane number of 91 and above (R + M) / 2. Does my warranty on the kit expire? In many cases, the turbo kit could affect your dealer`s warranty on the engine, which is not surprising. However, this should not affect the warranty of other components due to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

If you have any specific questions, please contact your local reseller. Is there a WORKS warranty? There is a 12k mile, 12 months warranty against defects in parts. CARB compressor kits offer more power without the inconvenience of a turbo. Unless you specifically want turbo noise or a lower power band, I see no reason to put this kit on top of the CARB SC kits. The WORKS Stage 2 turbo kit for the FR-S/BRZ takes the performance of our Stage 1 turbo kit to the next level with an air-liquid intercooler and a higher boost threshold. Level 2 is designed for those who want more power than our Stage 1 kit, but still want to keep its simple and minimally invasive setup. This kit uses a true Garrett GT28 ball bearing turbocharger to deliver efficient and turbocharged performance while retaining the OEM airbox, exhaust manifold and secondary catalytic converter. Our team of engineers has spent hundreds of hours designing, developing, tuning and testing to create a simple and reliable turbo configuration to enhance your vehicle`s driving experience. It is the easiest to install, most cost-effective and least intrusive air-to-air cooling system available for the FR-S/BRZ. Notable Features: What are the advantages of a turbocharger over a compressor? PLEASE LET US KNOW THE TYPE OF TRANSMISSION (CAR/MANUAL) AND TRUNK LID COLOR (BLACK/SILVER) WHEN BUYING. THIS KIT INCLUDES DROP IN FILTERS, BUT NO OIL COOLER. The long-awaited TURBO WORKS Stage 2 2017-2019 kit for the BRZ/86 platform is now a CARB complaint! This is the first and only CARB compliant turbo kit for the FR-S/BRZ/86 chassis!
